I’m the proud father of an autistic son

My oldest son, Zachary, is severely autistic.  This impacts not only my life but my entire family’s day to day lives.  I’m always open to discuss Zach’s obstacles that he faces and the challenges we go through as a family to provide the best life we can to him.  Unfortunately Autism is at epidemic levels for our children and for the majority of them they are not well supported by the educational and insurance industries.  Our school has greatly supported Zach, now the insurance companies that’s a whole other long post.

I put this on my site because just as autism defines my son it without a doubt defines me as a father, husband and person.  So next time you see some odd behavior at a store with a child don’t assume its just an unruly child with a parent who is a doormat – there maybe more to it than you know.
